AFTER HENRY

A FINE ROMANCE Academy Award-winner Dame Judi Dench (Shakespeare in Love, Mrs Brown) and husband Michael Williams (Tea with Mussolini) light up the screen in the charming TV comedy A Fine Romance about two middle-aged misfits falling in love. Laura is a brainy translator, and Mike a shy landscape gardener. When Laura's sister (Susan Penhaligon) tries a spot of matchmaking, the two are thrown together and an 'on off' relationship begins to develop. The on-screen chemistry of the two leading actors, together with great scripts by Bob Larbey and a strong supporting cast made the series a huge success, throwing Judi Dench into the limelight and earning her a BAFTA award for Best TV Actress. The video features the first three episodes from Series 1 - First Meeting, Different Answers and The Party (originally transmitted November 1981). A Fine Romance also stars Richard Warwick and was produced and directed by James Cellan Jones, Don Leaver and Graham Evans for LWT. There were a total of four series between 1981 and 1984. Michael Williams, Judi Dench's off-screen husband for almost 30 years, sadly passed away earlier this year.
