The Monkhouse Archive

This series was purportedly using the collection of comedy recordings that the elder statesman of comedy had accumulated over the years, but was a standard 'clip' show, where the BBC archives were raided for clips along a theme. Over the ten seasons Bob introduced these in a variety of ways, many repeated, but sadly this did not stand out from the crowds as when each run finished we were treated to another 'clip' show presented by someone else like Arthur Smith.

This was a great shame as Bob not only had more talent than this (why not a sketch show scripted by him, or his stand up material, now that would have been a great reason to tune in!), and he was underused throughout the run. With compilations being relatively cheap to produce, I suspect that we haven't seen the last of this type of show, but with passing of Bob Monkhouse, this one certainly has come to an end.
