Only Fools and Horses

This series started in Septemeber 1981, and a legend was born. Seven series later and a few Christmas specials, and it had the reputation as being one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. Following the dodgy dealings of Derek 'Del' Trotter and his younger brother, Rodney, they were orignally joined by Grandad and after his death, Uncle Albert.

David Jason starred as Del, with Nicholas Lyndhurt playing Rodney. Leonard Pearce took the role of Grandad until his death at the end of series three. From then on, Buster Merryfield played Uncle Albert. Others in the sereis were Roger Lloyd Pack as Trigger, John Challis as Boycie, Kieth MacDonald as Mike the barman, and latterly, Gwyneth Strong as Cassandra, and Tessa Peake-Jones as Raquel.

I am taking the opportunity to start from scratch with this page as the BBC have decided to release DVDs of each series in order or broadcast (apart from the special). To date this takes them up to a total of 5 DVDs, but the quality is great, each has a specially designed menu system, and they fit in a fraction of the shelf space that the videos did (I know, I gave all the vids to my brother!).

Series One. The videos of this series were released some years ago on individual tapes,a nd then re-issued as a double video, but now they are available on DVD, take up far less room on the shelf, and also have a snazzy menu system heading things up. All seven episodes from the first series are here, and at £19.99, the DVD is much better value than the single videos ever were!!! Anyone would think I was on commision here!

This is the unforgettable feature length Christmas cracker, first shown in 1989, and is available for first time on DVD. To Hull & Back

It sounded pretty Cushty. Fifteen grand to collect some diamonds from amsterdam for Boycie and Adbul - with just a few snags. There's some dodgy geezer called Van Cleef at the Dutch end, Chief Inspector Slater and his boys in blue back home, and a small matter of a bloody great custons hall in the middle. So when Del and Rodders accidentally end up in Hull, a brilliant idae enters the Trotter mind - why not sial across themselves? After all, Amsterdam "ain't all that far - int he right direction." Surely with an old sea dog like Uncle Albert at the helm, it'll be plain sailing?

It might not be far but with a terminally seasick youth, an entrepreneur who hasn't had a wash for three days and a sea dog who's sunk in every vessel he's ever sailed in, they might as well be sailing round the Cape. Will they ever get home? And ebe if they do, can ther trust Boycie and Abdul or avoid the dogged Chief Inspector Slater?

First broadcast on Christmas Day in 1985 and attracted 17 million viewers. Priced £15.99, this is available for the first time on DVD.

Dates

It's been a good month for Trotter's Independent Trading Company with the unprecedented demand for ladies razors meaning Del and Rodney can escape the daily struggle for a while and enjoy life's rewards. Their attention turns to romance as Rodney scores a date with Nervous Neris and an afteroon cruise in the three-wheeler proves memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Del joins a new computer dating agency - Derek Duvale, a suave, sophisticated tycoon whose ambition is to meet a girl who is refined enough to tell the difference between a bottle of Liebfraumilch and a bottle of Tizer - and is excited about meeting Raquel, who's 'not a bird, she's an actress' and sets out to impress her by taking her to lunch at the Hilton. Things turn more serious and it looks as if everything will turn out 'luvvly jubbly'... that is until Uncle Albert's birthday knees-up celebration is called to a halt by a couple in naval uniform...

This edition was first broadcast on BBC1 Christmas day, 1988. Priced £15.99, this DVD runs to 80 minutes.
