Richard trained at Nottingham Trent University in Theatre Design BA (Hons). Since graduating in 1992 he has worked for numerous companies including Glyndebourne Opera, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Open Hand Theatre Company and the BBC, as either designer or costumier. His design work includes several shows at the Key Theatre (Peterborough) including, Jesus Christ Superstar, King and I, Macbeth, Great Expectations and six Pantomimes Jack & the Beanstalk, Aladdin, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Cinderella. Other Design credits include Exclusive Yarns (Wimbledon Studio), Torch Song Trilogy (Kings Head, London), The Boyfriend, Murder By Misadventure, The Importance Of Being Earnest, Don't Look Now, and Absurd Person Singular (Southwold and Aldeburgh Summer Theatres).

Richard has recently moved his Costume Studio to Peterborough. The new facilities have seen costumes made for a variety of theatre shows including; On Your Toes (Royal Festival Hall, London and Japan Tour), Old Ladies (National Tour) and An Ideal Husband (Leicester Haymarket Theatre). Other Costume credits include Follies (Royal Festival Hall, London) Romeo & Juliet (Piccadilly Theatre, London), On Your Toes, Bali, Hot Stuff, Plague of Innocence and Witches (Leicester Haymarket Theatre). He has costumed other Christmas Shows including, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Beauty and the Beast (Loughborough Town Hall Theatre) West Side Story and Peter Pan (Leicester Haymarket Theatre).
