Betty Marsden, died, aged 79 on the 20th July 1998. Born in Liverpool, and studying at the Italian Conti Stage School, she only came to comedy after years as a stage actress with her big break arriving in 1938, when she was an understudy in a West End play, and was called up to replace the leading actress who had fallen ill. Touring for ENSA she regularly entertained the troops during WWII and it was then that she met her husband, an army doctor from Edinburgh, Dr Jimmy Wilson Muggoch, who she later had two children by.
She was a mainstay in Beyond Our Ken and Round The Horne and was the only female member of the team providing all the voices from the sultry vixens to the old hags with equal ease. She also appeared on television and film and can be seen as the the wife of Terry Scott in Carry On Camping.
